THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT THAT CREATED THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT

Hosted by James DePriest, a concert conductor who contracted polio at 26, he tells the stories of three people with disabilities and their struggle for equal rights under the law. This film draws a powerful parallel between the efforts of disability rights activists and civil rights struggle of the 1960's. Cathy, a child actress with low vision, explains why she became involved in the disability advocacy movement.

T.J. Monroe tells us what it was like to be diagnosed with a developmental disability while growing up in an institution. Hughey, an African American southern sharecroppers son, who became paralyzed in the Vietnam war, returns home to be a successful politician, judge and advocate.
