Elder abuse or mistreatment can take on various forms that often go undetected. The Elder Assessment Instrument (EAI) is designed to help caregivers identify possible abuse, neglect, exploitative, and abandonment indicators. The program encourages a team approach in incorporating elder abuse screening in the general older adult health assessment, and takes a realistic look at the potential challenges associated with an accurate assessment, such as patient restriction on sharing of information, and limiting caregiver presence during assessment.
