Designed for the unique learning needs of people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities (ID/DD). The learning and support needs of people with ID/DD have been neglected in general public health materials. To address this, The Live Smart Live Safe (LSLS) program will teach 1) Awareness, 2) Prevention, and 3) Preparation for personal and public health emergencies. The program is designed for use in group or discussion settings with people with ID/DD and the people and organizations that support them.
What the Product Teaches
Designed to help people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities 1) understand germs and germ transmission, 2) become more aware of cold and flu symptoms, 3) be able to monitor their symptoms with a digital thermometer, and 4) to seek medical attention for cold and flu symptoms when appropriate.
Personalized Pictorial Health Map
The Health Map includes a match-to-sample fever guide, a place to write down important information (e.g., medications, physician name, pharmacy name), a sample shopping list to provide examples of the types of non-perishable foods to have on hand, and a map of cold and flu symptoms. The Health Map is intended for use with the program and in the day-to-day activities of the individuals.
