THE ROLE OF DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS IN SELF-DIRECTED SUPPORTS
Help direct support professionals know how extremely important they are in the lives of people with disabilities! Planning for Life is for those responsible for designing and implementing self-directed supports. It is also for people with disabilities and families to help them visualize what supports can look like when they are the ones in control.
Encourage and motivate your staff while you support consumer directed supports and self-determination. Learn how direct support professionals find out what people want and then make it happen.
William - Overcame barriers to passing his drivers test and buying a car with the help of creative direct support staff.
Matt - Despite very significant disabilities and many labels (cp, autism, hearing, seizure) Matt shows us all that person-centered planning and self-direction is indeed for everyone.
Denise - Earned a B.A. in English with the support of staff that she directs and a communication device which made it all possible.
Clarence - With the right support, speech difficulties didn't impair him in getting involved in his community church.
Sam - Due to his disability he used to have financial and personal challenges but now is a professional advocate for others with disabilities.
